This is the first anime I ever watched and realized it was an anime. I had watched others before but did not realize what they were. Fullmetal Alchemist is responsible for my current anime addiction. Fullmetal starts out with two brothers Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric. The Elric brothers mother has died and they don’t know where there Father is being the young alchemists that they are decide to bring their mother back with the power of alchemy. The act of using alchemy to bring people back from the dead is forbidden and with good reason. The alchemy recoils on the brothers and takes Alphonse entirely and takes Edwards leg. Edward is a moment of desperation offers himself for his brother’s soul. Edward just loses his arm for his brother’s soul. Desperately, Edward attaches the soul of Alphonse to a handy set of armor in the corner of the room.

To make a long story short Edward has lost an arm and a leg and Alphonse his entire body only his soul in a suit of armor is left. Edward has made a mechanical arm and leg so he can travel freely, and decides to join the State Alchemists to look for the Philosopher’s stone. The state is the one who gives him the name of the Fullmetal Alchemist. The Philosopher’s stone is a stone said to contain powers and any alchemist can use the stone to ignore the alchemist’s rules. Which is 1: Equivalent Exchange. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.
#2: human transmutation. You must never try to resurrect the dead. This is a taboo that must never be broken (taboo is a prohibition if you didn’t know).
With this knowledge they set off to find the fabled stone and recover there bodies, on the way they must battle other alchemists and Homunculi (the end result of Human transmutation.) The anime ends ok but there is a movie after called Fullmetal Alchemist Conqueror of Shamballa I would deffinatly watch this movie since it wraps up the anime well.

Spice & Wolf: Anime Monday!

Ok, i am back with another exciting anime for everyone to enjoy! This weeks anime is….Spice and Wolf.

This anime is 2 seasons long and follows the story of a young traveling merchant Craft Lawrence, and his Companion Horo (who is really a large and wise wolf) on their crazy journey to find her homeland. But its not all fun and games for this trip, they have to ride the ever changing winds of profit and loss in the markets of different towns, hoping to have food and a buyer waiting for them, while dodging shifty merchants and other perils. All the while making sure they still have enough money left to get drunk and enjoy their hardwork.

I rather enjoyed this anime it was short but packed with a lot of character and was quite entertaining for anyone who enjoys the philosophical ramblings of old sayings. I also enjoyed his wit and that she was continually teaching him more and more about other ways to do business.

Overall Nerd rating: 7/10

It was a strong anime in its first season but the second season just kinda turned too mushy but the character development was good. Well there you have it, another great anime so get out there and watch it!

Berzerk: The Anime Series

3:45 pm in Anime, Nerd Flix by damaster

Every MONDAY, I will bring to you an anime that I think everyone should know about, and to start things off…

Berserk–I give this anime a Nerd rating of 10/10

The manga started in 1990 and is unfortunately still incomplete, however the Anime is 1 season long and is just awesome. This one truly has it all, BIG swords, big battles, boobs, an enthralling story, and the cannon isn’t too bad either!

It starts out and the first episode is actually the end, so don’t get too hyped up! The story then turns around and tells you what has happened to get to this point. It all begins with Guts, a mercenary fighting for money and the thrill of the next fight. He has a death wish and continually fights until he meets Griffith. Griffith gives him purpose, direction, and trust.

Griffith: Leader of the Band of the Hawk, he a smart, daring, and tactical man possessing an unusually large amount of Charisma as well as an excellent swordsman. He uses all of these qualities to further his dream of one day having his own kingdom.

Casca: The female heroine of the story was saved by Griffith from being raped by a nobleman. Ever since she was saved she made her dream to make Griffith’s dream come true, and as such is a commander in the Band of the Hawk. But she isn’t all show, She is one of the best swordsman in the entire mercenary band and possesses a lot of spunk, following Griffith without hesitation, completely enthralled in his being.

Guts: Guts is the main character of Berzerk, he is a renegade, a loose cannon finding fights wherever he can until he meets Griffith. They have a fight where Guts becomes indebted to Griffith and as such serves in the Band of the Hawk. Later in the story he is Promoted to Commander of the Hawk’s Raiders. He is continually surprised by the effectiveness of the mercenary band and grows deeply attached to his brothers in arms. Near the end of the story Guts decides its time to move on, he fights Griffith for his freedom and takes his own Path, until he finds the Band of the Hawk again, in dire need of his aid…

The Band of the Hawk: A mercenary group founded by Griffith as a means to achieve his dream. He uses powerful tactics to build a reputation for the Hawks gaining much influence with the King of Midland. Of course this doesn’t sit too well with the Court so measures are taken…measures with deadly consequences. But at the time the Hawks become idle, Guts gets restless and decides to leave the group. Little did he know, he was the Spine of the Hawks and with him gone…Griffith falls into despair and all but destroys himself and the hawks…

I won’t tell you the end of the anime because it is definitely worth watching!

The Last Airbender Review

Nerd Rating: 9/10

I definitely recommend seeing the movie in 3-D if you can, the difference is just so amazing. The main story followed the anime pretty well with a few minor differences, while it would be nice to have everything the same as the anime let’s face the facts it can’t be done in the time allowed. I found that Aang was a little on the serious side and his avatar state was laughable, bejeweled anyone? But over all I did like his acting. And I did miss Katara’s “hair loops”. I did think that while many of the hair styles could have been better, the actors picked to play did a good job of portraying there characters. So over all it was a good movie and I really enjoyed there portraying Read the rest of this entry →
